March 2013 Barn Owl

Really pleased to find a Barn Owl on my Local Patch.  There seem to be quite a few sightings around Gloucestershire this year but its great to have one within a few miles of my home.  Always very welcome and been missed for a few years now.

March 2013 Adder

Took this picture of an Adder basking in the sunshine a few years back on March 15th.  Too wet cold and lack of sun light to even go and look this weekend Ugh!

February 2013 Great Northern Diver

Great to be able to watch a bird that breeds in Iceland and Greenland in the local park lake only 10 minutes from where I work.  Lots of birders around also taking advantage of this exotic visitor to Pittville lake Cheltenham.

January 2013 Slimbridge

A visit to Slimbridge on a sunny winter morning can be great and when the "Tack-piece" is flooded it can attract thousands of waders and wildfowl.  There seems to be bitterns regularly wintering in the reed bed in front of the Zeiss Hide.

December 2012

After seeing many reports of Waxwings around the County I decided to have a go at these myself.  I made my way to Hester's Way and could see them immediately in the tops of bare trees and coming down to the red berries at Edward Wilson House which is opposite Bramley Road. After a short wait they soon came down en-mass and were feeding voraciously.

A very friendly guy called Tony invited me up to the entrance balcony where I could get eye level with them, he also brought me a cup of tea.  Thanks to him.  It's great the friendly people you meet when out birding.

November 2012

My first ever trip to Gambia on the 2nd November for ten days.  We stayed at Kotu. Most of the pictures were taken at Kotu Creek, Kotu Pond and the Cycle Track.
